Dr. Halloran Fulfills Evidence of Cognitive Expertise Requirement in Neuroradiology
8/14/2007

Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program.  This recognizes that in addition to medical knowledge, several essential elements involved in delivering quality care must be developed and maintained throughout one's career.

The MOC process is designed to facilitate and document the professional development of each diplomate of The American Board of Radiology (ABR) through its focus on the essential elements of quality care in Diagnostic Radiology and its subspecialties, Neuroradiology in Dr. Halloran's case.

The initial elements of the ABR-MOC have been developed in accord with guidelines of The American Board of Medical Specialties. All diplomates with a ten-year, time-limited primary certificate in Diagnostic Radiologic Physics, Therapeutic Radiologic Physics, or Medical Nuclear Physics who wish to maintain certification must successfully complete the requirements of the appropriate ABR-MOC program for their specialty.

Holders of multiple certificates must meet ABR-MOC requirements specific to the certificates held. Diplomates with lifelong certificates are not required to participate in the MOC, but are strongly encouraged to do so.

MOC is based on documentation of individual participation in the four components of MOC:
(1) professional standing,
(2) lifelong learning and self-assessment,
(3) cognitive expertise, and
(4) performance in practice.

Within these components, MOC addresses six competencies: medical knowledge, patient care, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, practice-based learning and improvement, and systems-based practice.

Non Surgical DRS/Spina TM System IDD
1/13/2006

Cedar Valley Medical Specialists, P.C. has been invited to join an elite group of worldwide specialists who are providing relief of chronic low back pain with no surgery with the North American Medical Corporation. For the past 17 months CVMS has successfully been helping patients suffering from herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, facet syndrome, sciatica, spinal stenosis and other low back conditions by treating them with the revolutionary non-invasive DRS/Spina TM System.

DRS/Spina TM System IDD is a revolutionary, non-invasive, non-surgical procedure. Developed after many years of research and clinical tests, the IDD (Internal Disc  Decompression) system has treated over 5,000 patients and has produced an incredible 86% success rate for patients with disc problems and truly remarkable results for other lower back conditions. We feel fortunate and privileged to be selected as one of the few clinics around the country that are able to provide this level of non-surgical treatment and relieve our patients’ pain and discomfort.

DRS/Spina TM System IDD is a quantum leap forward in biotechnology that relieves low back conditions without surgery – specifically: herniated (“slipped”) discs, degenerative disc disease, posterior facet syndrome, spinal stenosis and sciatica – in the vast majority of cases.

In the past 17 months we have treated over 200 patients. We have seen a staggering success rate of 90% in treated patients with unilateral disc protrusion.

Here’s how it works: The patient steps on a platform and lies back in a supine position on a leather padded bed, which is then lowered to a horizontal plane. The angle of distraction (from 10 to 25 degrees) is entered into the computer on the tower arm. This entry directly addresses the impinged area on the backbone (L1, 2, 3, 4 or 5) allowing vertebrae movement of 3 to 5 millimeters.

When the system is turned on, the patient will experience a firm but steady pulling from the lower extremities.  This separates the vertebrae of the spine ever so slightly and creates a vacuum that simultaneously draws surrounding fluid and re-hydrates discs. Decompression is achieved over a period of 25 minutes by a hydraulic weight pulling system in gradual 60 and 30 second alternate pull and release motions.

Back pain is a very serious issue which in many instances requires expert care using state of the art equipment and facilities. We are proud of our facility and the unique opportunity the DRS/Spina TM System provides for relieving low back pain in our patients. In addition, each patient is carefully evaluated and set up with an appropriate exercise program aimed at strengthening the core trunk musculature.

If you have a patient you feel could benefit from the DRS/Spina TM System, simply call Cedar Valley Medical Specialists Physical Therapy and we will set up an appointment. If available, please supply any radiograph tests or reports.

Please feel free to contact us at 319-833-5900 for questions or stop by the P.T. Department at the United Medical Park and any one of the staff will show you the equipment.
